ecohaus Bellevue pictures

I had left Bellevue for Portland a day before the soft opening and needless to say, it still looked like my basement. From all reports, the opening was a success and that the store is beautiful.

Anytime you design a space you have a pretty good picture of how it will look and, to some degree, how it will feel. Invariably, there are differences from your design and visualization.
I have not yet seen the finished version but am looking forward to seeing it tomorrow especially since I received these photos from Mary Gomez Camba. Thanks, Mary!

ecohaus Bellevue now ready for business

Thanks to everyone's hard work the Bellevue store will receive its first customers this morning.

This project was a difficult one as it overlapped the ecohaus Portland remodel and was a departure in design from the first two stores. It proves that the concept and fixtures will work in different configurations and venues. It also proved that opening a brand new store using the new staff to put the store together is a great idea.

I'll post photos of the finished project as I get them.

and they're off!

Thanks to the fired up and ready to go staff of ecohaus Bellevue the fixturing and store parts are now up and ready for merchandising. I was shocked and awed by the staff's attitude and ability to get things done in a hurry. What I had anticipated taking a week was accomplished in 2 days. My hat is off to them, especially Carly, Julie, Russ and the inimitable Jesse. Great job, guys!

ecohaus Bellevue

Greetings and salutations,

Bellevue has begun! At this writing, the contractors are feverishly attempting to wrap things up by August first, meanwhile I have been setting up fixturing with the help of a few of the new Bellevue staff.

The space is shaping up nicely. The design is a major departure for us as the space is quite different from what we have used in the past. The Bellevue space is a real retail space and the design honors that fact. The store will have a much more intimate feel than the other stores.

Completed Seattle

I am including some shots of the completed ecohaus Seattle to use as a contextual comparison for the upcoming ecohaus Portland.

Seattle was the realization of a new retail concept. It was designed to support the customer by engaging them more fully in the "play" aspect of shopping. By formatting all the materials in the same manner a consistent palette is presented to the customer. Providing them work space and the tools needed to successfully build a material story is central in the design. It's really about access: access to materials, knowledge, space and help.

Seattle was the prototype. Now it's time to apply what we learned there to the next stores and Portland is the next.

I don't have a decent shot of the paint bar so here's the rendering.

Grand opening

Greetings all and welcome to the inaugural post of the fabulous and hoped to be much talked about* blog by yours truly.

My intention in doing this is to give access to projects that I am currently working on as well as highlighting things that interest me. I will try to keep the navel gazing to a minimum and endeavor
to make these entries as interesting as I can. I am bound to fail, at times, so I ask for your patience
and thank you for taking an interest.

*well, let's hope that "much talked about" is more favorable and less scorn and fury.
